C’ River Get’s New REC as INEC Deploys Six Newly Confirmed RECs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially deployed six newly confirmed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), as part of its preparations for the 2026 off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood who made the announcement on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the RECs at the commission's headquarters in Abuja revealed that dates the Ekiti governorship election is scheduled for June 20, 2026, while Osun’s will follow on August 8, 2026.
The newly deployed RECs and their respective postings are;
Dr. Johnson Sinikiem – Cross River State
Dr. Sa’ad Idris – Gombe State
Feyijimi Ibiyemi – Ogun State
Mukhtar Gajiram – Taraba State
Chukwuemeka Ibeziako – Abia State
Umar Garba – Sokoto State
Professor Yakubu stated that the redeployments are part of efforts to strengthen INEC’s operational capacity ahead of crucial electoral exercises. “The redeployment was necessary to support the commission’s work ahead of upcoming elections,” he said.
He added that while the affected RECs have already been notified through internal administrative channels, INEC will soon publish the comprehensive list of their new postings on its official website and social media platforms.
The confirmation and redeployment of the RECs come as INEC intensifies preparations for the 2026 governorship polls, with a focus on ensuring transparency, efficiency, and credibility in the electoral process.
