Again, Supreme Court Sacks Anyanwu As PDP Nat. Sec, Dismisses Suit For Stay Of Execution Order

The Supreme Court has dismissed the application by Samuel Anyanwu seeking to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal’s ruling that removed him as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On Monday, the apex court rejected Anyanwu's request after his counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kingsley Njemanze, withdrew the application on his behalf.
According to Daily Post, the court's ruling effectively upholds the earlier decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had both ruled in favor of removing Anyanwu from his position.
The legal battle began after the Federal High Court in Enugu and the Court of Appeal issued concurrent judgments removing Anyanwu as PDP’s National Secretary.
According to Daily Post, Anyanwu had challenged these decisions, but the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling, affirming Chief Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the party.
The appellate court’s judgment, delivered by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi, dismissed Anyanwu's appeal, stating that his bid for the position was invalid as he had violated the PDP constitution by contesting and emerging as the party's candidate for the 2024 governorship election in Imo State.
Following this, Anyanwu took his case to the Supreme Court in February, seeking to overturn the lower courts' decisions and reclaim his position.
He also filed a motion for an expedited hearing, citing the importance of the National Secretary's role.
However, in a dramatic turn, Anyanwu chose to withdraw his request on Monday, signaling the end of his legal challenge for the role.
The substantive matter is still ongoing before the five-man panel led by Justice Musa Awani Aba-Aji.
