ADITOP Working To Bring Down Petroleum Products Prices, Says Board Chairman
The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADITOP) says it is working to bring down the price of petroleum products, especially that of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The association says it existence is to provide alternative in the distribution and transportation of petroleum products across the country.
The South South Board of Trustee (BoT) chairman of the association, Dr Nya Asuquo, who stated this during at a press briefing in Calabar on Monday, explained that the association is aimed to reduce the landing cost of products at retail outlets across the country.
He allledged that the oil sector of the Nigeria's economy has been monopolised by some association through incessant strike without corresponding positive impact to members of such organisation and Nigerians.
Asuquo, who commended the federal government over the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), said that the ADITOP pledged its full support to the successful execution of the act.
According to him, "ADITOP started in 2012 with the quest to curtail the incessant strike actions effects on Nigerian citizens.
"We are also put to provide an alternative in the oil sector with more frantic and human driven approaches that will reduce the humongous charges on the distribution value-chain of the downstream oil sector of the economy."
The BoT chairman also debunked the insinuation that the association is out to fight other existing unions in the industry.
"This is unfounded, petty, childish, unreasonable because the sky of the oil industry is too big for birds to clash while flying.
"We are partners in the Nigeria better economic project, bringing new ideals to bare, for the market is filled but not close.
"We must welcome new people into the system for a worthwhile experience. But if anyone tries to fight us, we will stop at nothing to seek redress adopting every conventional means available within the ambit of the law," he stated.
Earlier in his speech, the state chairman of the ADITOP, Mr Ekpenyong Ayi, said the association has come to stay in the country's oil industry.
"We represent the downtrodden, drivers, owners of tank farms and trucks; in Nigeria of today, there are things we need to do; while the government try to do their bit, we also need to help ourselves," he stated.
