Senator Eteng Williams Empowers 34 Law Graduates with N8.5m Grants

In a powerful demonstration of commitment to education and youth empowerment, Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, has disbursed N8.5 million in grants to 34 law graduates from his constituency.

The beneficiaries, drawn from various Local Government Areas across the central district, have all gained admission into the Nigerian Law School for the 2025 academic session. Each recipient received N250,000 to support tuition and living expenses during the rigorous one-year professional training required to become a licensed legal practitioner in Nigeria.

This marks the second phase of the Senator’s Law School Grant Scheme, which was launched in 2024 and has now supported 55 aspiring lawyers in total. Last year, 21 students benefited from the scheme, receiving N200,000 each. The increased amount this year reflects a response to the country’s rising cost of living.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Senator Williams reaffirmed his passion for educational advancement and equal opportunities for young people in his district.

“Many students face serious financial challenges that can derail their dreams. This support is to ensure they focus on their studies, pass the bar finals in one sitting, and return to serve their people,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused, studious, and prayerful, stressing that their success would not only uplift their families but also contribute to the broader development of their communities.

“If you graduate and start practising, don’t forget your people and your constituency. I believe one day, you’ll come back to help others,” the Senator added.

Senator Williams also hinted at the launch of a broader scholarship scheme targeting postgraduate students in the coming months, further expanding his educational support agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Tasen Arthur Egbe, a graduate of the University of Calabar, expressed heartfelt gratitude.

“This grant is almost a miracle. Law school comes with heavy financial burdens, and this support has lifted a great weight off our shoulders. We commend Senator Williams for being a true believer in youth empowerment and educational growth,” he said.

Egbe also acknowledged the Senator’s earlier efforts in facilitating both local and foreign scholarships for students in the senatorial district, describing him as a “leader who invests in the future.”

Senator Eteng Jonah Williams’ gesture continues to set a benchmark in legislative-driven community development, demonstrating that political office can be a platform for transformational impact—one student at a time.
