4th Edition Of Offiong Edem Table Tennis Talent Hunt Holds In Calabar

The Chairman of the Canaan Table Tennis club Hon. Orok Duke has hailed Olympic table tennis sensation Offiong Edem for organizing a mini table tennis talent hunt for young players across the south south and south south eastern region.

Duke who made the remarks during the fourth edition of the Offiong Edem mini table tennis talent hunt which held at Canaan Table Tennis Club said the little project they started at the UJ Esuene stadium as Canaan Table Tennis Club has metermorphosed and brought home local and international laurels.

He pleged to continue to contribute his quota to the development of the Table Tennis game and to her quest of discovering and discovering young talents.

Also, the national vice chairman of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation ( (NTTF), South South Zone, Ama-Ebi Ebikpolene disclosed that the secret of a successful career in sports is to begin early which is what Offiong has done by catching them young.

On her part, the six times African champion Offiong Edem hinted this year's edition of the talent hunt is the 4th revealing that she has discovered a number of talents from the hunt.


The states that participated in the hunt include, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Abia, and Anambra with a total of forty-eight table tennis players competing.

So far U-14 Girls category, Chinasa Okafor from Abia state won the gold medal, Onakpoberwo Ese of Delta state, went home with Silver medal, Peace Kalu of Delta state and Princess Enuice both won bronze medal.

In the U-14 Boys category, Clinton Ogbonwbia of Bayelsa state took the gold medal, Iwobi Rex of Delta state, got silver medal, Daniel Uche of Abia state and Salomi Iheanacho of Akwa Ibom state had a bronze medal each.

Also in the U-17 girls category, Chineye Okafor went home with gold medal, Peace Kalu - Silver, Onakpoberwo Ese and Oluchi Philip of Cross River state also won bronze medal.


In the U-17 boys category, Matthew John of Bayelsa state won a gold medal, Bright Joel of Cross River state, took home a silver medal, Able God Udoh of Akwa Ibom state carted away a bronze medal while Victor Kamala of Bayelsa state won a bronze medal too.
