Jarigbe Reaffirms Sports Drive as Obanliku Lift Maiden JARI Unity Cup

Football excitement lit up Ogoja as Obanliku Local Government football team emerged champions of the maiden JARI Unity Cup, edging Ogoja Local Government on penalties in a thrilling final played at the TTC Football Field.
The closely contested encounter lived up to its billing, with both sides displaying grit, flair and tactical discipline before the match was decided from the spot, where Obanliku held their nerve to claim the historic title.
Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to grassroots sports development, describing sports as a powerful tool for youth engagement, unity and talent discovery.
Congratulating both finalists, Senator Jarigbe praised their resilience and competitive spirit, noting that the quality of football on display underscored the enormous potential within the district. He described the JARI Unity Cup as a growing platform capable of adding lasting value to sports development in the area, a vision he said informed his facilitation of a mini sports stadium for the zone.
The maiden tournament was sponsored by Champions of the North, led by Mr Peter Mbata, as part of deliberate efforts to promote grassroots football, strengthen communal bonds and provide constructive engagement for young people across Cross River North.
The colourful final attracted a large and enthusiastic crowd and was attended by notable dignitaries, including Hon Mike Usibe, Hon Rita Agbo Ayim and Barr Adie Chilo, alongside other guests and sports enthusiasts.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding performers, including the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and Highest Goal Scorer. Medals were also presented to the champions, runners up, organisers, match officials and special guests.
The JARI Unity Cup is expected to become an annual fixture, serving as a vital platform for discovering emerging talents while promoting unity, sportsmanship and youth development across Cross River North Senatorial District.
