Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has intensified consultations with key political stakeholders in Cross River State as he prepares to officially join the All Progressives Congress.
Jarigbe, representing Cross River North, paid a visit to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, at their residence in Calabar on Wednesday.
The visit forms part of a series of engagements that began in Abuja last week and is aimed at harmonising interests, fostering understanding, and carrying stakeholders along as Senator Jarigbe formalises his move to the ruling party.
He was accompanied by prominent political figures including Chief Timmy Tom, Chief Austin Edibe, Mr. Jimmie Aninege, and other leaders. Senator Jarigbe later held a meeting with members of the Cross River State House of Assembly from Cross River North. Lawmakers in attendance included Hon. Pius Ashakia, Hon. Omang Charles Omang, Hon. Martins Achadu, Hon. Brian Odey, and Hon. Thomas Aruku.
Senator Jarigbe recently confirmed that he has left the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC.
He has also officially notified the party leader in the state, Governor Bassey Otu, and the APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba.
According to him, the decision aligns with his commitment to support the re election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Otu as well as strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker received the Senator warmly and encouraged him to sustain his consultations across the state in order to build a united political front anchored on peace, love and unity.
Senator Jarigbe’s planned entry into the APC is expected to reshape the political landscape in Cross River North. Analysts say his defection may significantly weaken the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)influence in the senatorial district and further consolidate the ruling party’s strength in the state.
