JAMB to Allow Candidates Use Personal Devices from 2027

By Benjamin GBOR

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to introduce a “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) option for candidates sitting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) starting from 2027.

This was revealed by the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja. He explained that the initiative would allow candidates to take the examination using their personal devices, while a secured flash drive would be deployed to curb malpractice.

According to him, the new system is expected to reduce costs, simplify exam logistics, and address frequent complaints from candidates about system failures during the test. He added that the approach is designed to improve convenience without compromising the credibility of the examination process.

Oloyede further noted that additional innovations are being planned ahead of the 2027 examinations to ensure a smoother and more efficient experience.
