INEC Announces Final Phase of Nationwide Voter Registration Exercise
By Benjamin GBOR
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed a new window for the continuation of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), announcing that the third and concluding phase will run from May 11 to July 10, 2026, across the country.
Details of the exercise were made public in a statement issued on Tuesday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who heads the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee. He explained that the earlier suspension of the process on April 17 was necessary to enable the commission tidy up the voters’ register after opening it for public verification and objections.
According to the commission, Nigerians who have recently turned 18, as well as those who missed previous registration periods, are encouraged to take advantage of the new schedule to get enrolled.
INEC also noted that the exercise will accommodate already registered voters who wish to make adjustments. This includes those intending to change their voting location, replace missing or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct personal details. Such services, the commission said, can be accessed through its online platform or at its offices in states and local government areas nationwide.
As part of the process, the commission revealed that the updated register will be made available for public inspection later in July, specifically from July 23 to July 29. The display, it added, is meant to allow citizens review the list and raise any necessary claims or objections to improve its accuracy.
INEC further assured the public that preparations have been finalised to ensure a hitch-free exercise, while urging eligible Nigerians to participate and contribute to strengthening the credibility of the electoral system.
