Imoke Wants To Rescue Nigeria, But Couldn't Rescue Power Sector As Minister, Says Wike

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at the former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, openly questioning his integrity of rescuing Nigeria when he couldn't rescue power as former minister of the sector.

Wike also lashed out at other figures in the new opposition coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), wondering what else do they have to offer after they have all failed to deliver in their promises as former political office holders.

In an interview with Channels Television, Wike dismissed the coalition as irrelevant, arguing that Nigerians have already rejected it since it offers nothing new.

According to him, politicians often appear on TV making promises, but their previous records carry more weight than their words.

He particularly criticized Imoke, drawing attention to his time as Minister of Power, when massive investments went into the energy sector without solving Nigeria’s electricity challenges.

“How can Imoke be talking about rescue now, but he once held the power ministry. Remember how much was spent then. If he had succeeded, we wouldn’t still be struggling with electricity.

“He couldn’t even rescue his own state. What did he leave behind in Cross River?” he asked.

The minister stressed that Nigerians are no longer interested in failed leaders presenting themselves as reformers, noting that the outcome of recent bye-elections has already shown the coalition’s lack of influence.
