IGP Egbetokun Presents Cheques Worth 2 Billion Naira to Families of Fallen Officers

The Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has presented cheques worth ₦2.17 billion to 1,574 families of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. 

The ceremony which held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, marks the 11th phase of the Police Insurance Scheme under Egbetokun's administration.

According to a statement made available to Newsmen and signed by Force PRO Benjamin Hundeyin, the cheques presented cover policy years from 2015 to 2025, including recoveries of long-outstanding claims that had remained pending for nearly a decade.

Speaking while presenting the cheques, the IGP Kayode Egbetokun said the exercise is a "solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility" to honor the legacies of departed colleagues and support their families.

He explained that welfare of officers remains a top priority stating that the Force is committed to providing meaningful support to families of fallen officers.

The IGP emphasized the Force's commitment to redesigning its welfare architecture to be stronger, more transparent, and fully digitized, ensuring prompt payment of entitlements stressing that the cheques are a symbol of collective gratitude and a pledge that beneficiaries remain part of the Nigeria Police family.

He expressed gratitude to the Force Insurance Unit, insurance companies, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for their roles in the disbursement process while thanking President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support for police welfare initiatives.

Since assuming office, IGP Egbetokun has disbursed a total of ₦24.2 billion to 9,735 families of fallen Police officers.
