Gov Otu Hails Clement Ebri at 73, Celebrates “Father of Modern Cross River”

Cross River State governor, Bassey Edet Otu has paid glowing tribute to former governor of Cross River State, Chief Clement David Ebri, describing him as “a towering statesman and the father of modern Cross River State."

In a special message issued by His Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, marking his 73rd birthday, Governor Otu celebrated Chief Ebri’s enduring legacy, noting that his visionary leadership “continues to illuminate our collective path more than three decades after his stewardship.”

The Governor recalled that although Chief Ebri’s administration from 1992 to 1993 was brief, it laid critical foundations for the state’s long-term progress. “His bold reforms in agriculture, education, health and infrastructure reshaped the very soul of our state,” he said.

According to Otu, these initiatives became “the cornerstone upon which many later accomplishments stand,” adding that Ebri’s contributions “planted developmental seeds that still blossom across generations.”

Governor Otu further praised the elder statesman for his refined leadership ethos, describing him as a man of humility, intellect and dignified service. “We honour not only his achievements, but the grace and wisdom with which he led our people,” he remarked.

He noted that Chief Ebri’s life story remains a testament to dedication, courage and a deep love for the state, qualities that continue to inspire the new generation of leaders.

The governor expressed heartfelt wishes for Chief Ebri’s continued health, fulfilment and divine favour. “May this new chapter be crowned with renewed strength and boundless joy,” he said.

“On behalf of the Government and the wonderful people of Cross River State,” Otu concluded, “I extend my warmest congratulations to a great son of our land, Sir Clement Ebri, as we celebrate his remarkable 73rd birthday.”
