Gov. Otu Condoles Family of Late Veteran Journalist Anietie Akpan

Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has commiserated with the family of late veteran journalist, Mr. Anietie Akpan, describing him as a man of stature whose contributions to journalism will remain indelible.
Governor Otu conveyed his condolences through a delegation led by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo.
The delegation, which included the Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Mr. Nsa Gill, and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, was received by his widow, Mrs. Imaobong Anietie Akpan, and her daughter, Etinyene.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Obogo explained that Governor Otu would have loved to visit the family personally but for exigencies of duty, and had mandated the team to convey his heartfelt sympathy and solidarity.
Obogo said the Governor also provided financial support to assist the family in preparing for the final rites of the late journalist, noting that the gesture underscores his respect for the journalism profession and solidarity with the bereaved family.
He described the late Akpan as a highly respected media professional whose death is a great loss to the journalism community in the State and beyond, having made significant contributions to public discourse and societal development.
According to him, the Governor’s action reflects his appreciation of the critical role journalists play in documenting history, informing the public and shaping democracy.
Obogo assured the family that the State Government shares in their grief and prayed for God’s strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
In her remarks, the Chairman of NUJ, Cross River State Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, commended Governor Otu for his media friendly disposition and consistent support for journalists in the State, adding that the support will go a long way in giving the veteran journalist a befitting farewell.
Responding on behalf of the family, Etinyene Anietie Akpan expressed gratitude to the state governor for identifying with the family at their moment of grief and for his thoughtful support.
