Former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, Passes Away at 69

Nigeria has lost a distinguished law enforcement icon, as former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase passes on.

Confirming his death, his son Solomon Arase Jnr said the former IGP died on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness adding that the family will announce arrangements for his obsequies in due course.

Arase 69, had a remarkable career in the Nigerian Police spanning over three decades, serving in various strategic positions, including, Nigeria's 18th Inspector General of Police, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Principal Staff Officer to former IGPs, Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence

Arase was widely respected for his reform-driven leadership, dedication to police welfare, and commitment to education, youth empowerment, and social impact. Through the Solomon Ehigiator Arase Foundation, he promoted academic excellence by awarding scholarships to outstanding Nigerian students, particularly children of deceased police officers and indigent families.
