EXCLUSIVE: Suspended Chairman Eba Fights Back, Obtains Garnishee Order Against APC Bank Accounts

By Our Reporter

THE battle over the soul of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Cross River State chapter is still on as the embattled chairman, Bar. Alphonsus Eba, has obtained a Garnishee Order against all Bank accounts of the party, THE BEAGLE NEWS can authouritatively report.

Investigations by THE BEAGLE NEWS revealed that Eba had resorted to court which granted him a Garnishee Order against all the party's bank accounts to stop them form having access to the party financial statements and other official transactions following his suspension and subsequent removal as state chairman.

But the new party leadership of state Executive Committee led by the Acting chairman, Mr Ekum Ojogu, played a fast one and quickly opened a fresh account with Globus Bank to stop EBA from having access to the monthly allowance sent to the party form the state government.

The state Exco alerted the state government of the new development and then government paid in last party allocation into Globus Bank.

On getting wind that the state party leadership had opened a new account with Globus Bank, Eba allegedly pressurised the bank management not to release the money, but other party stalwarts prevailed on the bank to release the cash meant for the party officials at all levels of the structure.

Piqued by this ugly development, Eba moved to court and got an order to garnishee all othe party's accounts to stop the new leadership from having any transaction with the banks until certain issues are resolved by the national party leadership.

However, there are strong indications that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had given a tacit approval to removal of Alphonsus Eba and had directed the new state leadership to get down to works and reconcile all aggrieved persons and move the party forward.

Sources close to the National Secretariat of the APC confided in THE BEAGLE NEWS that the Legal Adviser had advised that Eba step aside since the SEC had already passed a bit of no confidence on eBay and subsequently impeached him.

The source said only the APC National Convention can outrun Eba's removal form office, signalling the end of Eba's reign as State chairman.

 Removal of Eba

Recall that at the early hours of Thursday, December 4, 2025 the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party has announced impeachment of Eba at an emergency meeting held at the State Secretariat in Calabar.

The removal was carried out after 30 of the 32 members SEC voted against his continued stay as the Chairman of the APC in Cross River.

It was noted that the decision to impeach him followed a similar vote of no confidence against him by the local government chairmen, secretaries, and vice chairmen of the party.

Similarly, his impeachment was further supported by the vote of no confidence passed on him by the 196 ward chairmen of the APC in the state.

Following Eba's impeachment, the State EXecutive Committee (SEC) met and was appointed an acting chairman by the SEC.

The motion for the appointment of an acting chairman was raised by the State Welfare Secretary of the party, Mr Okara Ekawu, and seconded by the state treasurer, Dr Mathew Egom.

Ekawu premised his motion on article 17 subsection 6 of the party’s constitution and further noted that the appointment be made pending the ratification of the National Working Committee (NWC).

 Acting chairman reacts

Meanwhile, the acting chairman, Mr Ekum Ojogu, who promised to work for the unity of the party, appealed to all aggrieved members to close ranks and confine the event of the past few weeks to the "dustbin of history."

According to him, "I will fight for the party’s stability and so, I appeal to us all to set aside any differences and misunderstandings that may have arisen during the crisis and let's work for the interests of the APC.

"I will operate an open door policy, carry everyone along, and do want us to know that the APC remained committed to delivering dividends of democracy to our people," he stated.

While pledging to be loyal to Governor Bassey Otu , he said, "I want to believe, and I know that the battle of the last few weeks will only make us stronger."

 Forum chairmen

It would be recalled that the state chapter of the APC has been embroiled in crises with the chapter chairmen alleging him of various allegations.

The APC crisis started when the forum of local government chairmen and secretaries of the party had demanded Eba’s resignation.

The forum led by Chief Kelvin Njong, based their demand for Eba resignation on "high handedness, insolent, underrating, and transactional approach in party administration."

They also accused the chairman of instigating chapter and ward party officials against the chapter leadership.

Similarly, they further accused him of refusal to remit the percentage meant for the local government areas and wards from the sales of forms during the 2023 general elections.
