Political stakeholders in Etung Local Government Area have resolved to zone the State House of Assembly seat to Abijang Ward ahead of the next general elections, effectively ending the second-term ambition of incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Kingsley Ntui Isong of Ajassor Ward.
The decision was announced by former House of Representatives member and Etung political leader, Hon. Ebuta Tangban after an enclosed stakeholders meeting describing the resolution as a very successful conclusion to what had been a tense and controversial process.
He praised Etung’s leadership for rising above board despite divided interests, calling the outcome a clear demonstration of the hand of God in Etung.
"The office of the State House of Assembly of Etung has generated a lot of tension and controversies".
“Politics is a game of interest, there is nothing wrong with anyone indicating interest to run for whatever office but once the leadership sets a direction, every other person is bound to follow that direction,” he stated.
Hon. Ebuta acknowledged that the incumbent member, Hon. Kingsley Isong, is very desirous of running and has a right and claim to it, but insisted that "Etung is bigger than any one person. Etung has spoken. And so shall it be.”
He appealed to supporters of all aspirants to accept the resolution, noting that “all aspirants who have so far interfaced with the screening committee are limited to Abijang.
“My hope is that after now, you will understand and come to terms with the fact that it is clear that we are on a journey. In the interim, nobody has the capacity and nobody should have the capacity to distort that journey,” he added.
As at press time, it was still unclear if the incumbent assembly member has accepted the verdict of the stakeholders or is bent on carrying on his 2nd term bid.
