Etung APC Affirms New Chapter Leadership in Consensus Congress
By Ebi COLLINS
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etung Local Government Area, on Saturday, marked a historic milestone in political harmony, successfully conducting its Chapter Congress at the local government headquarters in Effraya.
The event was characterized by a powerful display of grassroots solidarity as party faithful gathered not for a contest, but to affirm a leadership structure meticulously crafted through dialogue and collective agreement. This seamless transition has set a new benchmark for internal party democracy within the region, transforming what is often a period of friction into a celebration of shared vision.
The proceedings commenced with an opening address by the Chairman of Etung Local Government Council, Hon. Henry Anom, who praised the maturity and harmony displayed by the Etung people throughout the consultative process.
Anom emphasized that the gathering was a vital task of affirming a consensus already reached by the entirety of the party’s leadership. He noted that the peaceful conduct of the exercise would significantly bolster the party’s strength in Etung, and he offered a heartfelt tribute to the outgoing executives for their devotion and empathy during their tenure at the helm.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, the Congress Returning Officer, Mr. Alphonsus Nzie, expressed his admiration for the exceptional organization and hospitality he encountered. Humorously remarking that he was "jealous" of the deep bond shared by the Etung APC family, Nzie declared that the party would move forward as one entity.
He reminded those gathered that the true power of the party lies with the grassroots members, urging them to continue supporting the structure that makes the APC a formidable force in the local government area.
The highlight of the day was the official emergence of Mr. Emmanuel Ndum as the newly elected Chapter Chairman. The emergence marks a significant homecoming for Ndum, who previously held a similar position fifteen years ago and now returns with a wealth of experience and a humble heart.
In his acceptance speech, he pledged his total commitment to the party’s vision, stating that he is ready to work with the established leadership template. He immediately signaled a move toward modern governance by directing the Chapter Secretary to digitalize operations and ensure every executive and ward chairman is connected for real-time mobilization.
The transition was further marked by a poignant valedictory moment from the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Eric Ndifon. In a gesture of true sportsmanship and party loyalty, Ndifon reflected on how his time in office had made him a better person before officially handing over the APC Constitution and the party’s symbolic broom to his successor. He urged the party faithful to extend the same unwavering support to the new executive team that he enjoyed during his own stint, ensuring a continuous legacy of progress.
The event drew a distinguished crowd of stakeholders, signaling total alignment within the party's upper echelons. Notable attendees included Prince Ebuta Ojong Ayuk, Leader of the Party in Etung; Hon. Kingsley Ntui Isong, Member representing Etung in the State Assembly; and Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, the Commissioner for Health. They were joined by elder statesman Ntufam Gabe Odu Oji; Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser to the Governor on National Assembly Matters, Ntufam Chris Njar Mbu-Ogar; the Leader of Etung Legislative Council, Hon. Ekubnse ThankGod, among others.
