Earthquake In Obanlikwu APC as Hundreds Defect To PDP
Obanlikwu Local Government Area has witnessed a political earthquake as a significant number of stakeholders officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the People's Democratic Party (PDP), delivering a major boost to Senator Jarigbe Agom in Cross River North Senatorial District.
The defectors include Hon. Celestine Abaka, the immediate past PDP chairmanship candidate who had briefly crossed to the APC; Mr. Godwin Ashibi, Coordinator for Hon. Peter Akpanke in Bendi 2; Mr. Maurice Ogar, Coordinator in Bishiri South; and Mr. Peter Utase, Special Assistant on Political Affairs to Hon. Akpanke.
Also switching allegiance are Hon. David Iyou, former Leader of Obanlikwu Legislative Council; Mr. Joseph Ushie, former PDP Chapter Secretary; Hon. Paulicap Ugbong, former councilor; and Mr. Ignatius Ekpe, Councillorship candidate. Apostle David Kejohu (Bebi Ward), Joseph Ayang (Bisu Ward), and Sly Kejohu have similarly abandoned the APC to embrace the PDP.
During a courtesy visit to Senator Jarigbe’s Abuja residence, Hon. Celestine Abaka, speaking on behalf of the group, pledged their full support for the Senator, citing his accessibility, proven track record, and visible developmental achievements. Highlighted projects include five solar-powered boreholes, bursaries for 100 students, and the newly constructed Busangfong road, all underscoring Senator Jarigbe’s commitment to the people of Obanlikwu.
The defectors are set to formalize their membership in a grand ceremony in Obanlikwu, expected to attract thousands of supporters and demonstrate the growing dominance of Senator Jarigbe and the PDP in the area.
Welcoming the new entrants, Senator Jarigbe expressed gratitude for their support, assuring them of full integration into the party without discrimination and warning against any form of intimidation. He pledged to continue delivering tangible democratic dividends to the people of the Senatorial District.
The defection ceremony also saw the presence of Constituency Officer Mr. Egar Mgbantul, Mr. Joseph Agabi, and Pastor John Naku.
This mass exodus from the APC marks a turning point in Obanlikwu politics, reinforcing Senator Jarigbe’s influence and the PDP’s growing momentum in Cross River North.
