Cross River Government Warns Against Trespassing on Green Areas
In line with the environmental vision of the administration of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State, to restore environmental order, rehabilitate degraded spaces and promote a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Calabar, the Ministry of Environment has commenced the comprehensive restoration of all designated green areas across the metropolis.
The Ministry has observed with concern the continued trespass and unauthorized use of green areas, particularly for football and other sporting activities at the Airport Field and other designated green corridors, in clear violation of environmental regulations.
Consequently, the Ministry hereby issues a firm warning to all individuals, groups and associations to desist forthwith from any form of trespass, encroachment or unauthorized activity on all designated green areas and allow the ongoing restoration exercise to proceed unhindered.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry has duly authorized the Nigeria Police Force and other law enforcement agencies to arrest, and prosecute in accordance with extant environmental laws, any person or group found trespassing on green areas or obstructing government restoration efforts.
The Government remains committed to protecting public green spaces and will not hesitate to enforce compliance in the overall interest of environmental sustainability and public good.
All residents, sports enthusiasts and members of the public are therefore advised to comply strictly.
Barr. Bassey Offiong Mensah, Esq.
Honourable Commissioner for Environment
