By Missang Akpet
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ikom Local Government Area have unanimously agreed to retain the existing zoning formula ahead of the chapter congress scheduled for Saturday.
The decision was reached during a pre congress meeting held on Thursday at Jorany Hotel in Ikom. Party leaders said maintaining the current arrangement would promote peace, equity and stability within the chapter.
The Council Chairman, Pastor Mercy Nsor, described the large turnout at the meeting as a demonstration of unity and solidarity within the Ikom APC family. She commended members for their commitment and for the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded ward congresses, expressing confidence that the forthcoming chapter congress would be hitch free.
Also speaking, the member representing Ikom I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Samuel Neji Abang, urged party faithful to remain united in order to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections. He said unity and collective effort would position the party to support Governor Senator Bassey Otu in 2027.
Abang applauded the governor’s performance over the past three years, noting that his leadership has provided clear direction for the party and contributed to the party’s successes across the state.
In a unanimous resolution, stakeholders from the 11 wards reaffirmed the existing zoning arrangement. The chapter chairmanship was zoned to Ikom I State Constituency, while the council chairmanship in the next round of council elections be zoned to Ikom 2. There was also a proposal to micro zone the chapter chairmanship to Ikom Urban Ward I.
