It was a season of sweetness in Boki local government area as Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong, Ph.Dng, representing Boki II State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, extended Christmas relief materials to his constituents.

The outreach marking part of activities for the Yuletide, which took place in Boki II, saw the distribution of over 600 bags of rice, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, salt, vegetable oil, and financial support to beneficiaries across the six wards of the constituency.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Hilary Baking said the outreach was inspired by the people-centred leadership style of Governor Bassey Edet Otu and the Christian call to give selflessly.

“In this sacred season, I was reminded that it is more blessed to give than to receive. This is not about politics but about thanksgiving to God for keeping us from January to December,” he said.

He explained that although Calabar remains the centre of the Season of Sweetness celebrations, it was important to bring the spirit of the season closer to the people of Boki II.

“Because Calabar is far from here, we decided to bring the Season of Sweetness home so our people can feel it. It is not about the quantity of what we share, but the love of Christ behind it,” Hon. Hilary added.

He also commended Governor Otu for transforming Calabar into what he described as the “light city of West Africa,” while thanking him for extending the Season of Sweetness to rural communities.

In his remarks at the gathering, Chief Kelvin Ijong, the Boki APC Chapter chairman, described the lawmaker as a source of inspiration to young people, noting that his emergence has renewed hope among the younger generation.

“Many of us now have hope because someone from our own generation has occupied a position we once thought was not meant for us.

"I am learning so much from him by also daring while appreciating the lawmaker for celebrating the Season of Sweetness with his people."

Two beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed deep appreciation for the lawmaker’s gesture.

One of them, simply identified as Madam Theresa Obi, said: “I am very happy. I cannot fully express myself, but I can feel the love among my people. Honourable Hilary has truly given us a reason to smile.”

Another beneficiary, described the outreach as timely, praying for God’s continued blessings upon the lawmaker.

“Thank you for sharing your hand of love with the people of Boki II. May God replenish you and grant you favour in your political journey,” the beneficiary said.
