C'River Police Commissioner Seeks Traditional Rulers’ Support Against Jungle Justice

‎The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has sought stronger collaboration with traditional rulers in tackling insecurity and promoting community-based policing across the state.

‎

‎Ordue made the call on Tuesday, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, at his palace in Calabar.

‎

‎The commissioner said traditional rulers played a strategic role in community security because of their influence, closeness to the people and knowledge of local issues. He sought their support in intelligence sharing, identifying emerging security threats and resolving community disputes peacefully.

‎

‎He also called on the Obong and the Council of Chiefs to speak against jungle justice, mob action and other forms of violence, urging residents to report suspected criminal activities to the police and other lawful authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.

‎

‎Responding, the Obong of Calabar welcomed the commissioner and his delegation and pledged stronger collaboration with the police in promoting peace, security and harmonious relations between the force and the people.

‎

‎Ordue said effective security required the collective efforts of the police, traditional institutions, government and community leaders, adding that security remained a shared responsibility.
