C' River State Govt. Mandates Active Participation in September Environmental Sanitation Exercise
The Cross River State Government has announced that the September 2026 State-wide Environmental Sanitation Exercise will hold on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The exercise, according to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Bassey Offiong Mensah, Esq., is designed to be action-oriented, with emphasis on the active participation of residents in cleaning and maintaining their immediate environment.
Government observed that some residents remain indoors during sanitation hours rather than participating in the cleaning of their surroundings, a practice which defeats the essence of the exercise.
Accordingly, all residents are expected to come out and actively participate in the exercise by cleaning their immediate surroundings, desilting gutters and drains within their vicinities, cutting overgrown grasses, clearing refuse and evacuating same to designated disposal points.
The Ministry of Environment, on behalf of the State Government, has called on political appointees, Local Government Chairmen, Ward Councillors and Liaison Officers, market leaders, youth leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders across the State to mobilise and encourage their followers and members to participate actively in the exercise within their respective domains.
It added that Task Force teams from the Ministry of Environment, Urban Development Authorities across the State and relevant security agencies will be deployed to monitor compliance.
While restriction of movement will be observed from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., emphasis will be placed on active participation in environmental sanitation. Owners of premises found in violation of relevant environmental regulations will be prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws.
The State Government therefore enjoined all residents to support the exercise and contribute to keeping Cross River clean, green and serene, in line with the People First mantra of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
