C' River Deputy Governor Describes Jarigbe's Defection As Timely

By Judex OKORO

The Deputy Governor of Cross River, Dr Peter Odey, has described the defection of Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress as timely.

He said Agom-Jarigbe is coming into the ruling party at the right time and will add value to the APC in the state and nation.

Odey stated this when he received the Senator at his residence as part of his (Agom-Jarigbe) ongoing consultations across the state.

Deputy Governor welcomed him and encouraged him to broaden his consultations across the state in order to build a united and cohesive political front anchored on peace, love, and unity.

The Senator who had earlier visited the Speaker and some members of the State House of Assembly said that the consultations is aimed at harmonising interests, deepening understanding, and securing the buy-in of political leaders.

It would be recalled that the Senator has announced his defection to the APC following his meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

Agom-Jarigbe said the decision aligns with his commitment to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Otu, and to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.

At the meeting, Senator Jarigbe confirmed his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He formally notified the state party leader, Governor Prince Bassey Otu, the APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly from Cross River North of his decision.

The distinguished Senator said, the decision aligns with his commitment to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Otu, and to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.

Senator Jarigbe was accompanied on the visit to the deputy governor by prominent political figures including Chief Timmy Tom, Chief Higgins Peter, Chief Austin Edibe, Chief Thomas Odu, Mr. Jimmie Aninege, and other leaders.

Political observers believe Senator Jarigbe’s planned move is already triggering a wave of defections in Cross River North, with loyalists and other stakeholders expected to follow him into the APC.

The development, they argue, could significantly weaken the PDP’s influence in the district and further consolidate the ruling party’s dominance in the state.
