The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates for Anambra South Senatorial District, and Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election, Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu and Barr. Ifeoma Mimi Azikiwe respectively as winners of the Saturday, August 16, 2025 by-elections on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes to defeat Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,812 votes, and Donald Amamgbo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who got 2,889 votes.

The poll, contested by about 16 political parties, was conducted to fill the vacant seat of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. Ubah, who was re-elected in 2023 on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), defected to the APC before his death in 2024.

 He is also the first politician from Nnewi South to occupy the position.

Similarly, INEC declared Barr. Ifeoma Mimi Azikiwe of APGA winner of the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election.

According to the Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Azikiwe polled 7,774 votes to defeat ADC’s Mrs Justice Azuka, who scored 1,909 votes. APC’s Mr Ezennia Chuka Ojekwe and YPP’s Ms Njideka Ndiwe polled 1,371 votes and 655 votes respectively.

Azikiwe will complete the remaining two years of the late Justice Azuka, who was abducted on December 24, 2024, and later killed. Her body was discovered near the 2nd Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.
