The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has announced that Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, along with his counterparts from Zamfara and Kaduna States, Dauda Lawal and Uba Sani, will be honoured at the second edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Awards scheduled for April 8, 2026, in Abuja.

The event will take place at the NAF Conference Centre and is expected to bring together key players in Nigeria’s broadcast industry.

In a statement issued by BON Executive Secretary, Yemisi Bamgbose, the organisation said the three governors are being recognised for their sustained support for the media sector and their contributions to the growth and development of broadcasting in Nigeria.

The organisation described them as “partners in progress whose commitment to media development continues to inspire institutional growth and professional excellence.”

BON noted that the awards ceremony, scheduled to hold between 6pm and 9pm, forms part of its broader efforts to promote excellence and uphold high standards within the broadcast industry.

The body explained that the governors were selected based on their “remarkable goodwill and strategic support for media institutions,” adding that the recognition is aimed at strengthening collaboration between government and the media.

The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, endorsed by BON’s 74th General Assembly in 2021, have become a respected platform for celebrating excellence in broadcasting and promoting quality media practice in the country.

According to BON, the 2026 edition attracted 204 entries covering broadcast performances from 2024. The selection process was overseen by a committee chaired by Danladi Bako, alongside representatives of regulatory agencies and seasoned broadcasters, and was described as transparent and rigorous.

In addition to honouring the governors, the awards will recognise excellence across 24 competitive categories, including radio and television stations of the year, best reporter, best newscaster and best producer.

BON further stated that the event will also celebrate individuals whose lifetime contributions have significantly shaped Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape, while reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, innovation and integrity in the industry.
