Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River and former Senate Leader, Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, have poured encomiums on Mrs Bernedetta Idagbo, mother of former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Legor Idagbo, on her 85th birthday.

The duo described the celebrant as a woman of faith, resilience, sacrifice, and strong family values, whose life had positively influenced her family and society.

Otu, represented by his Deputy, Dr Peter Odey, gave the commendation at the birthday celebration, where he praised Octogenarian Idagbo for her years of service as a schoolteacher and her positive influence on those around her.

The governor acknowledged the importance of her contributions to society through teaching and commended her children for coming together to honour their mother.

Otu said the state government was proud to identify with the celebrant and expressed confidence that she would live to celebrate more milestones.

“We are proud to identify with them. We will be here to celebrate your 90th birthday, and we will be here again to celebrate your 100th birthday,” he said.

He prayed for God's continued protection, good health and longevity for the celebrant, assuring the family of the government's willingness to support initiatives that would honour her contributions and legacy.

Similarly, Ndoma-Egba, who chaired the occasion, described attaining 85 years as more than a milestone, saying it represented a life of grace, faith, sacrifice and commitment to humanity.

He particularly commended the celebrant for sustaining unity among her children and extended family members over the years.

“Some of us have known members of this family since they were young girls and ladies. Today, those who were girls are mothers and grandmothers, yet they have remained together like a flock.

“I am sure that has been possible because of the role of Mrs Idagbo. She has kept her family together, her sisters together and her children together,” he said.

The former Senate Leader also praised Legor Idagbo for consistently honouring his mother, describing the gesture as an expression of the biblical injunction to honour one's parents.

He expressed confidence that the family would continue to enjoy God's blessings for the love, respect and care shown to the celebrant.

Ndoma-Egba prayed for her continued good health and longevity, expressing optimism that the family would reconvene to celebrate her 90th, 95th, and 100th birthdays.

In his remarks, Legor Idagbo, son of the celebrant, expressed gratitude to God for preserving his mother's life and making it possible for the family to celebrate her at 85.

He disclosed that his mother had suffered a domestic accident a few months ago, which caused the family serious concern over her health.

“At some point, we feared that we might lose her. However, we committed everything to God in prayers, and He saw her through.

“I am particularly grateful that she has recovered and is not only back on her feet but can also dance and take a few dance steps at 85. This is something we do not take for granted,” he said.

Idagbo said the family decided to come together to celebrate their mother and thank God for her recovery, and continued preservation were all in attendance.

The Chief Whip of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr Hilary Bisong, Chief Peter Higgins, the Head of Service, Mr Orok Okon, family members, friends and well-wishers.

The guests joined the family in celebrating the milestone,

which featured prayers, goodwill messages, music, and dancing.
