NDC Zones C' River Governorship to South

The national leadership of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, has zoned its Cross River State governorship ticket to the Southern Senatorial District.

The decision follows calls by party members for the ticket to be ceded to the South, arguing that with major political parties already selecting candidates from the zone, it would be politically unwise for the NDC to depart from the prevailing zoning arrangement.

Sources close to the state leadership of the party told The Beagle News that the decision has been communicated to the state chapter, which is expected to meet soon to determine its next line of action.

The sources said the state leadership welcomed the decision, describing it as timely and capable of reducing tension and preventing unnecessary acrimony among party members.

With the zoning now settled, indications are that the party's deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Stella Archibong, is well positioned to emerge as the governorship candidate.

Party insiders said several influential stakeholders are backing her aspiration, citing her experience, credentials and leadership qualities.
