ASUU Resumes Strike at UniCross Over Unfulfilled Govt Agreements
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Cross River (UniCross) chapter, has reinstated its industrial action, accusing the government of failing to fulfil agreements reached with the union.
The chapter chairman, Patrick Ushie, confirmed the development while speaking with journalists in Calabar on Monday.
Ushie explained that the decision was taken at a union meeting following the government's failure to implement outstanding commitments made before the suspension of the previous strike on July 21.
He said the government had violated agreed deadlines for implementing the resolutions and failed to respond to several notices issued by the union over the unresolved matters.
According to him, the union had initially suspended the industrial action after a series of engagements with government officials but was compelled to resume it because the agreements were not honoured.
Ushie maintained that the latest strike would remain in force until the union's demands were met, ruling out another suspension without concrete action from the government.
The UniCross ASUU chapter had commenced an indefinite strike on May 19 over staff welfare issues and the alleged failure to implement agreements reached with its national leadership.
