2027: INEC’s Publication of Our Candidates Has Silenced Critics — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official publication of its candidates for the 2027 general election has put an end to months of speculation and silenced critics who doubted the party’s ability to participate in the presidential race.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the PDP said INEC’s publication officially confirms Senator Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor as its presidential candidate and Alhaji Babangida Umar as his running mate for the 2027 election.
Reacting to the development, the party said the publication followed the resolution of internal leadership disputes and legal challenges that had fuelled uncertainty over its participation in the election.
“Today, the facts have prevailed, the law has taken its course, and the PDP has once again been vindicated,” Jungudo stated.
He argued that the development had effectively dismantled what he described as propaganda by political opponents aimed at misleading Nigerians into believing that the PDP would be unable to field a presidential candidate.
According to the statement, detractors deliberately spread unfounded rumours and misinformation as part of a strategy to undermine public confidence in the party and sow division among its members.
The PDP expressed appreciation to its members and supporters for remaining steadfast throughout the period of uncertainty. It also commended INEC, the judiciary and security agencies for upholding the rule of law and ensuring due process.
Reaffirming its commitment to reconciliation and party unity, the opposition party extended an olive branch to aggrieved members while welcoming those who have recently joined its ranks.
Under the leadership of its National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, the PDP said it remains focused on presenting a credible, united and people-oriented alternative to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party maintained that the publication of its candidates by INEC marks a significant milestone in its efforts to rebuild, consolidate internal cohesion and reclaim power in 2027.
