Hundreds Rally Behind Eteng, Hail His Performance Despite APC Return Ticket Setback

Hundreds of constituents in Okpani community, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, have rallied behind Senator Williams Eteng, praising his performance in the Senate despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) not granting him a return ticket.

‎The residents declared their support during a visit by Eteng on Friday night, where they also endorsed President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

‎Eteng, who represents Cross River Central Senatorial District and serves as Deputy Director-General (South-South) of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), was escorted through major streets of the community by hundreds of residents displaying placards in appreciation of his contributions to the area.

‎Some of the placards read: "Eteng, we are thankful for your continual support and dedication to our people"; "We appreciate you for lighting up our community with streetlights"; and "Where you go, we will follow."

‎A community member, Mr Jones Abel, described Eteng as a worthy son of the soil, saying the senator had remained committed to the welfare of his people since venturing into politics.

‎Abel said residents were disappointed by the APC's decision not to grant Eteng a return ticket but maintained that his performance in the Senate had earned him the admiration of constituents.

‎"I am speaking the minds of the people. Judging from the crowd you see here, you don't really need any further pronouncement to know that Eteng is loved by his people," he said.

‎He added that the senator's contributions to the community had strengthened residents' confidence in his leadership.

‎Similarly, a female resident, who declined to disclose her identity, said the community would continue to support Eteng irrespective of his political fortunes.

‎She said residents were also prepared to support candidates endorsed by the senator, including Tinubu's re-election bid.

‎"With or without a return ticket, we will continue to support whoever Senator Williams directs us to.

‎"That is why we are fully behind him in his support for President Tinubu's re-election," she said.

‎The gathering came amid preparations for the 2027 general election, with Eteng using the visit to mobilise support for President Tinubu's re-election bid.
