Ahead of 2027, Cross River state chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bar. Venatius Ikem, has stated that they are not too far away from Government House.

Speaking at the party Secretariat in Calabar at the weekend while inaugurating a twenty man committee to plan the state congress of the party., Ikem said PDP has total control of a senatorial district in the state and needs another district to claim victor.

"We are not far from government House in 2027. It is not a tall dream. It is achievable with determination, commitment and the support of our party faithful and we are there.

"We plead with our brothers in the south and central not to throw stones at the party, rather come together let us build a more united. This is the time to take advantage of the mistakes of the APC-led administration in the state and transform it to victory.

"We need to focus our energy on what we are doing in our state, take advantage of the mistakes APC, reposition our party and transform it to victory.

"We have total control of northern senatorial district and will remain impenetrable. What we need is another senatorial district and we are gone", he said.

The state chairman also emphasized that despite challenges facing the party at the national level, it still boasts of very credible people emphasizing that it's challenges are superficial and in due season the challenges will go away for people who have the conviction and courage to serve the party.

He described the Congress committee headed by Professor Zana Akpagu as a galaxy of stars as it sends a message about the quality of people still in the Cross River PDP.

In his reaction, Prof. Zana Akpagu said the committee accepts the responsibility and the import of the assignment.

"We wholeheartedly accept this responsibility. We know the import of this task and we are not taking this assignment for granted", he said.
