2027: APC Declares Chinda Rivers Governorship Candidate

‎The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State for the 2027 general elections.

‎The declaration was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti.

‎Kwamoti disclosed the result at the party’s secretariat after collating figures submitted by electoral officers from the 23 local government areas of the state.

‎According to him, Chinda, who emerged as the sole aspirant in the primary election conducted on May 21, 2026, secured a total of 268,497 votes.

‎He stated that the aspirant fulfilled all constitutional requirements and guidelines of the party and was therefore returned as the APC governorship flagbearer for Rivers State.

‎The APC primary generated significant political interest due to the prolonged crisis in Rivers State and the strong influence of loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.

‎There had also been widespread speculation surrounding the political future of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following reports that he withdrew from the APC governorship race.
