The lawmaker representing Boki Ikom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Abang, has declared his intention to contest for a second term in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking during an address to constituents and party members, Abang said his decision was driven by the need to consolidate on the achievements recorded within his first tenure.
“I return to you not as a ruler, but as your servant, seeking once again the privilege to serve,” he said, while formally announcing his re election bid.
Abang, who was sworn in on June 13, 2023, described his time in office as a period of purposeful engagement, noting that his legislative interventions were designed to address critical needs within the constituency.
He listed several bills he sponsored, including those seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Okundi, a Federal College of Education Technical in Ikom, and a Federal Medical Centre in Boki, alongside other national legislative proposals.
The lawmaker also pointed to motions he raised on issues such as cross border concerns between Nigeria and Cameroon, infrastructure deficits and security challenges affecting communities in the area.
“These were deliberate efforts aimed at delivering real results for our people,” he said.
On constituency development, Abang said his office implemented projects across all 22 wards, covering healthcare, education, rural electrification, water supply, agriculture and youth empowerment initiatives.
He added that farmers were supported with inputs and equipment to enhance productivity, while vulnerable residents benefited from relief interventions.
Despite the progress, Abang acknowledged that economic realities at the national level slowed the pace of some projects.
“Reduced fiscal inflows affected aspects of the 2025 budget, leading to the extension of some projects, but we remain focused on delivering on our commitments,” he said.
He stressed the importance of continuity in legislative representation, arguing that experience and seniority play a crucial role in attracting development to constituencies.
“It is important to understand that impactful representation is built over time through experience and sustained engagement,” he noted.
Abang assured constituents that he would continue to advocate for their interests and pursue more development opportunities if given another mandate.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and the APC leadership in the constituency for their support and contributions to ongoing development efforts.
“Together, we have laid a strong foundation, and with your support, we can achieve even greater progress,” he added.
