By Ekanem Asuquo

The member representing Ikom Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Victor Abang, has secured the All Progressives Congress APC ticket to contest for a second term in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Abang emerged victorious in the party’s direct primaries conducted on Saturday after polling 10,850 votes to defeat four other aspirants despite an earlier consensus arrangement.

Other contenders in the race included former Secretary to the Cross River State Government, Tina Banku, member representing Boki II State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hilary Bisong, former state lawmaker Cletus Obun, Joseph Enu and former Commissioner for Works, Dan Asu.

Announcing the result at the constituency headquarters in Ikom, the returning officer, Eka Williams, said the party adopted direct primaries following the collapse of an earlier consensus arrangement which had projected Abang as the preferred candidate.

According to him, the decision was in line with the party constitution and the Electoral Act, which provide for direct primaries where consensus arrangements fail.

Williams expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, noting that the outcome reflected the wishes and aspirations of party members across the constituency.

Reacting to his victory, Abang thanked party faithful for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain efforts aimed at improving the welfare of the people of the constituency.

He appealed to other aspirants in the contest to join hands with him in advancing the collective interest of the constituency and accelerating economic development in the area.

Also reacting, a frontline contender in the race, Banku commended the peaceful conduct of party members and described the exercise as transparent and credible.

She congratulated Abang on his victory and pledged her readiness to collaborate with him in the overall interest of the constituency.

Chairmpersons of Boki Local Government Area, Beatrice Nyaim, and her Ikom counterpart, Mercy Nsor, congratulated Abang on his emergence as the APC flag bearer for the House of Representatives election.

The council bosses said his victory reflected the overwhelming acceptance of his leadership and performance in office.

In separate remarks, the Commissioner for Information and the APC chapter chairman in Boki, Kelvin, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and a demonstration of internal democracy within the party.
