13 Brigade Nigerian Army Busts Human Trafficking Ring in Calabar
The Headquarters 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the National Agency for The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), on Wednesday arrested seven suspected human traffickers in Calabar, Cross River State via an intelligence report.
According to an official statement by Assistant Director 13 Brigade Army Public Relations, Major Yemi Sokoya, the suspects were caught negotiating to sell a day-old baby boy for ₦3 million at Glorious Amazing Grace Hospital in Ikot Ekpo area of Calabar Municipality.
The arrested suspects who are from Cross River and Akwa Ibom states include Mrs. Glory Emmanuel (54), Mr. Anthony Bassey (35), Miss Uduak John (27), Mrs Deborah Edet (35), Mrs. Ruth Asuquo (35) and Mrs. Frada Donald (35).
The suspects have been handed over to NAPTIP for investigation and prosecution while the rescued baby has been handed over to appropriate authorities for proper care.
The 13 Brigade Nigerian Army is committed to combating human trafficking and other crimes, urging the public to support security agencies with credible information.
