UNICAL VC Harps on Strong Town-Gown Ties as Ikpai Ohom Qua Clan Head Visits

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has reaffirmed the university's commitment to strengthening ties with its host communities, describing traditional institutions as critical partners in academic excellence, peace-building and sustainable development.

Prof. Offiong stated this when he received the Clan Head of Ikpai Ohom Qua Town, Calabar Municipality, HRH Ntoe Barrister Godwin Etim Asuquo, who paid a courtesy visit to the university management.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Anthony Afam Okiwelu, said the University of Calabar owes its growth and stability to the goodwill and cooperation of its host communities. 

He stressed that no university can thrive in isolation, noting that collaboration with traditional institutions remains vital for promoting research, innovation, youth empowerment, security on campus, and community development.

According to him, the university will continue to open its doors for partnerships that promote cultural values, skills acquisition and programmes that directly benefit young people in the host communities.

Speaking earlier, the Clan Head of Ikpai Ohom Qua Town, HRH Ntoe Barrister Godwin Etim Asuquo, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his visionary leadership and the developmental strides being recorded in the university.

He said education remains the strongest tool for youth development and societal transformation, adding that the clan is ready to support initiatives that deepen the relationship between the traditional stool and the university.

The meeting, held at the office of the DVC (Administration), ended with exchange of goodwill messages and a renewed commitment to deepen cooperation between the clan and the university.
