UNICAL VC Assures Constant Availability of Drugs at Medical Centre
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has assured members of the university community of the constant availability of drugs at the University Medical Centre.
Prof. Offiong gave the assurance during a visit to the Medical Centre, where he interacted with the management and health personnel as part of his ongoing familiarisation and assessment of key service units within the institution.
He stressed that access to quality healthcare is critical to the wellbeing and productivity of both staff and students, noting that his administration will prioritise uninterrupted drug supply and improved healthcare delivery.
According to him, ensuring the constant availability of medication at the Medical Centre is a deliberate policy aimed at reducing external referrals and strengthening confidence in the university’s health system.
Prof. Offiong charged the management of the Medical Centre to uphold professionalism, accountability, and prudent use of resources to sustain drug availability and quality service delivery.
He emphasized that all patients must be treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of status.
Prof. Offiong noted the need for the Medical Centre’s ambulance to be serviced and disclosed plans to replace the ageing vehicle to enhance effective service delivery.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen staff and student welfare services and improve the overall standard of healthcare delivery at UNICAL.
Dr. Kaiser Etta, Director of Health Services, congratulated Prof. Offiong on his emergence and assured him of the management’s readiness to work closely with him to achieve the administration's objectives.
He also highlighted challenges facing the facility.
Officials of the Medical Centre appreciated the Vice Chancellor's support and commitment, noting that his assurance would enhance healthcare services.
The visit concluded with a gift presentation to the VC.
