UNICAL: FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES HOLDS VALEDICTORY SESSION FOR OUTGOING VC

The newly created Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the University of Calabar, today held a valedictory session in honour and appreciation of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi.  

Speaking at the session which held at one of the lecture rooms at the Faculty, the pioneer Dean, Prof. Esekong Hutton Andrew-Essien, described the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, as a golden and seasoned administrator, as well as a performer and an uncommon achiever. The Dean on behalf of the staff and students of the new faculty, thanked the Vice Chancellor for creating the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies and assured her that history will be kind to her.

Also speaking, the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, hailed the Vice Chancellor for her numerous achievements in the past five years and assured her that she will always be remembered for her legacies which speak volume in the university.

In her remarks, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, congratulated the pioneer Dean of the Faculty, Prof.Esekong Hutton Andrew-Essien, for his recent appointment and commended the immediate past Head of Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Uzoma Chukwuemeka Okugo and the current Head of Department, Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, for their efforts, collaboration and co-operation with her office at making the new faculty a reality.

The Vice Chancellor seized the opportunity to advise students of the Faculty to utilise the radio station on campus for practicals and to acquire the needed skills that will help them to become self-reliant after their graduation from the University.

Accompanied by Deputy Vice Chancellors, the Registrar and other principal staff members of the University, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, thanked the Dean, staff and students, of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, for the co-operation and the warm reception she enjoyed from them.

High point of the event was a presentation of an award of excellence for a meritorious service, to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, from the Dean, Prof. Esekong Hutton Andrew-Essien, on behalf of staff and students of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Calabar.
