Umahi terminates contract of company handling construction of Calabar-Itu Highway

THE Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has terminated the contract of Raycon Construction, the company handling the construction of Ekim-Odukpani section of Calabar-Itu Highway over what he described as “poor performance of the contractor.”

Expressing disappointment after an inspection tour of the road over the weekend, Umahi regretted that the company failed to meet the terms and conditions agreed upon and pledged that the contract will be awarded to a firm that will possess the requisite capacity and competence to deliver the project to a desired standard.

According to the Works Minister, “this job is beyond their capability. The termination is necessary to enable the ministry to bring in a new contractor. The ministry will issue a stop-work order to the company and conduct a joint assessment of the work done so far.” Umahi, said.
