SPORTS,: UEFA Names Candidate Venues For 2028, 2029 Champions League

UEFA has revealed the proposed venues for the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals, with Munich’s Allianz Arena confirmed as the only candidate to host the 2028 edition of Europe’s biggest club football event.

The iconic home of Bayern Munich is now set to stage the 2028 final, returning to the spotlight 16 years after it last hosted the showpiece in 2012.

For the 2029 final, the choice will come down to two legendary stadiums, Barcelona’s Camp Nou and London’s Wembley Stadium. Barcelona are hoping to mark the reopening of their renovated Camp Nou with a major European final, while Wembley remains a strong contender thanks to its modern facilities and history of hosting major events.

The revamped Camp Nou is expected to be ready in time to host its first major competition after years of reconstruction, and UEFA’s decision could hand the city of Barcelona another chance to shine on the continental stage.

UEFA also released the list of venues competing to host the Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League finals in 2028 and 2029.

For the Europa League, four cities are in contention for 2028: Lyon in France, Torino in Italy, Bucharest in Romania, and Belgrade in Serbia. The same lineup applies for 2029, except Belgrade is replaced by Ankara, Turkey.

Meanwhile, the UEFA Europa Conference League shortlist for 2028 includes Lille (France), Budapest (Hungary), Torino (Italy), Gdansk (Poland), Astana (Kazakhstan), and Almaty (Kazakhstan). For 2029, Helsinki (Finland) joins the list alongside Lille, Budapest, Torino, Gdansk, Astana, and Almaty.

UEFA is expected to make the final announcements after reviewing each city’s facilities, infrastructure, and ability to host large-scale international events. The official confirmation of host cities is anticipated in early 2026.
