Ruud Gullit Laments Decline of Modern Football After Arsenal vs Chelsea Clash
By Akpo ESCO
Former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit has expressed deep frustration with the current state of football, revealing that he has stopped watching matches because he no longer finds the game enjoyable.
Speaking after watching the clash between Arsenal and Chelsea, Gullit described the encounter as extremely disappointing.
“I’ve decided to stop watching football,” Gullit said. “
I watched Arsenal against Chelsea — what an absolutely poor match.”
The former Ballon d’Or winner criticised what he believes is a growing trend in modern football, where players focus more on forcing set pieces rather than playing freely.
“I see players trying to force corners, trying to force throw-ins, and I see ball boys ready to hand towels to the players. Football has become absolutely horrible,” he added.
Gullit also lamented the disappearance of creativity and flair that once defined the game.
“I’m missing the joy. Where are the players who dribble? Where are the players with courage on the ball?”
