Popular Akara Vendor Allegedly Caught Mixing Human Feaces With Akara in Ikom

An elderly akara and bread vendor operating along Ani Street, off Obudu Road in Ikom, Cross River State, was caught today by customers after she was allegedly found mixing human excreta with beans used to prepare akara for sale.

According to eyewitnesses, concerned customers who regularly patronized the vendor became suspicious and demanded to inspect her ingredients. When she reportedly refused, they forced the container open and discovered the contamination.

When questioned, the vendor allegedly attributed the act to “the work of the devil” and claimed she had been engaging in the practice for a long time, believing it would attract more customers.

The incident sparked outrage among residents who gathered at the scene at the early hours of today. 

As of press time, it is unclear whether security agencies or environmental health officials have taken her into custody for investigation and prosecution.
