POLITICS: PDP Govs Warn Wike, Others Over Moves To Stall Nov Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has cautioned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other party members against moves to stall the forthcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a communiqué issued after its 7th meeting on Saturday, August 23, in Gusau, Zamfara State, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to the resolutions of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July.
“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st NEC meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention,” the statement read.
“It urges members to resist attempts by anti-party forces to derail the process and to uphold the PDP as the only democratic institution capable of restoring good governance and national development.”
The meeting, chaired by Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, also addressed insecurity, the erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the convention.
The governors praised members for withstanding orchestrated defections, insisting that such distractions would not diminish the party’s grassroots strength or Nigerians’ hopes for affordable living and security.
The communiqué further criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of divisive governance that has deepened hardship across the country.
Meanwhile, Wike has voiced dissatisfaction with the zoning arrangements in the South-South and the retention of Ali Odefa as National Vice Chairman (South East).
He also warned that ignoring the election of Dan Orbih could trigger a crisis within the party.
