PDP Slams Govt Over $9m PR Contract, Calls It "Defective and Deceptive"

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the Federal government's decision to hire DCI Group, a US-based public affairs and lobbying firm, for $9 million to promote its image abroad.

The party questions the necessity of the contract, citing the existence of a well-equipped Ministry of Information and numerous media aides.

In a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP's raised Concerns about lack of confidence in the well equipped Ministry of Information, no allocation for the contract in the 2025 budget, bypassing proper channels by using a private law firm as well as ineffective use of resources_ when citizens face insecurity.

The PDP emphasized that addressing insecurity and ensuring citizens' safety should take precedence over unnecessary image-laundering efforts adding that no lobbying firm can replace the lived experiences of the people.4

The PDP urged President Tinubu to focus on providing solutions to insecurity rather than seeking external validation.
