One Killed, Another Injured As Biase Land Dispute Turns Bloody

Tension has gripped Biase LGA after a land dispute between Orugbam and Egbor Communities led to the death of one farmer and left another injured on Saturday.

‎Police said the attack happened at about "3:00 p.m." when "two farmers, Mr. Nkeruwem Ikoh and Mr. Ukam Ajah Okpan, both of Orugbam Community, Erei, were allegedly attacked and shot by unidentified gunmen while working on their farmlands near Egbor Community."

‎Eyewitnesses said the victims were taken to the village for immediate care. Police confirmed that "Mr. Nkeruwem Ikoh later succumbed to his injuries, while the second victim is currently receiving treatment." His remains were deposited at Uwana Mortuary, Afikpo.

‎The Cross River Police Command, through PPRO ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said it is treating the case as a criminal incident linked to the communal land dispute.

‎"We have commenced a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice," the Command stated.

‎Authorities are calling for calm as detectives continue to gather evidence and track the suspects.
