Obong of Calabar Scholarship Board Opens Applications for Efik Students in Tertiary Institutions
The Obong of Calabar Scholarship Board has announced the commencement of applications for its annual scholarship scheme aimed at supporting deserving students of Efik extraction in higher institutions across the country.
According to the board, the initiative was established to promote academic excellence and expand access to educational opportunities for young Efik sons and daughters who display exceptional promise. By investing in the intellectual development of its youth, the scheme seeks to strengthen the community and nurture future leaders equipped to contribute meaningfully to society.
The Chairman of the Scholarship Board and Vice Chancellor–designate of the University of Calabar, Prof Offiong E. Offiong, urged eligible students to take full advantage of the opportunity. He noted that the scholarship represents a strategic intervention designed to ease financial burdens and inspire academic focus among Efik students.
Prof Offiong emphasised that the board remains committed to ensuring that no brilliant student is left behind due to financial constraints. He encouraged all qualified candidates currently enrolled in higher institutions to apply without delay.
Application forms are available at the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, where interested students can obtain, fill, and return them for screening. Forms can also be collected from the office of Dr Maurice Ekpenyong at the Department of Biology, University of Calabar, as well as from Prof Robito Ekanem at the University of Cross River State, Calabar.
The board advised students not to miss what it described as “a timely opportunity to support their academic journey,” stressing that the scholarship is part of a broader mission to uplift the Efik community through education.
