Xabi Alonso Takes Over Real Madrid As Pep Guardiola Exit Man City

Real Madrid has reportedly finalized plans for Xabi Alonso to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as their next head coach, while Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed his intentions once his tenure at the Etihad comes to an end.

Carlo Ancelotti is expected to leave Real Madrid at the conclusion of the current season, following a campaign that has failed to meet expectations and could end without silverware. Despite dealing with a persistent injury crisis in defense, the Italian manager’s time at the Bernabeu appears to be drawing to a close.

According to Relevo, Xabi Alonso has long been preparing to step into the role. Although Bayer Leverkusen, his current club, has not yet been officially informed of his decision, they are working under the assumption that Alonso will depart soon. The Bundesliga club reportedly will not stand in his way, as there is a gentleman’s agreement in place to allow the move. Alonso, who played for Madrid between 2009 and 2014, is expected to make a seamless transition back to the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has addressed speculation about his own future.

The Manchester City manager, who extended his contract earlier this season until 2027, stated in an interview with ESPN that he plans to take a break from football once his time at City concludes.

“When I finish here, I will take a break,” Guardiola said, clarifying that he’s unsure how long he’ll remain at City but confirmed he won’t immediately move into another job. He emphasized that he’s not retiring but will step away from the game temporarily, similar to his sabbatical between leaving Barcelona and joining Bayern Munich.

While Guardiola hasn’t committed to an exact timeline for his departure, his statements suggest that his next career move will involve a period of rest rather than an immediate return to the dugout.
