During the ceremony, 8,415 students would earn first degrees, 438 and 754 would earn doctorate and Master's degrees respectively.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Florence Obi, who disclosed this in her office during a pre convocation briefing, said 32 students earned first class degrees and this is the highest number in the history of the institution

She said the award of degrees for undergraduates would come up on Friday this week while doctorate degrees would hold on Saturday.

She, however, said the number will change before the convocation ceremony as more results are coming in from the various departments.

Prof. Obi also disclosed that Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, has been scheduled to deliver the 36th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar.

She said Bishop Kukah's convocation lecture would be titled "Harmonizing Diversities For National Development", and will hold on Thursday this week at the University's International Conference Centre.

She described the Bishop as one man who has given his life not just for the service of God but that of humanity.

The VC said, as part of the convocation activities, five projects executed largely by TETFund would be inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, alongside some TETFund officials.

According to her, the projects, which comprises three pavilions and two hostels, are worth over two billion naira.
