The immediate past chairman of the University of Calabar Alumni Association, Professor Yakubu Ochefu, has stated that the factionlisation that plagued the body over the years has ended.
Ochefu, who disclosed this in an interview with THE BEAGLE NEWS at the weekend shortly after the 2024 Alumni Annual General Meeting held in Calabar, said they inherited a factionalised body with series of litigation and have been successfully resolved.
He also disclosed that the Alumni has successfully incorporated an investment trust company to expand the scope of its ability to support its alma mata.
"We inherited a factional university alumni four years ago. We have worked very hard to reconcile the factions.
"The Alumni was in court with the University Management and the case lingered for years and the association was split into three factions.
"We have been able to reconcile all the factions and we took the case out of court. We have also successfully incorporated an investment trust company that will be the business arm of the association.
"We hope to use this to expand the scope of our ability to support our alma mata", Ochefu stated.
Also speaking, the immediate past secretary of the association, Chike Uzoma, said the factionalisation was as a result of interference from the university authorities over alumni affairs.
He, however, said they have been able to cement this relationship as there is presently no faction.
According to him, the 2024 AGM also produced a new executive lead by Paul Eshiemomoh, who pledged to build a strong alumni association that will be reckon with in Nigeria.
He also promised to grow the associations' branches, plant new ones and also reach out to all Malabites and Malabresses to buy into the association's vision.
